Mattia Cacciavillani – Musician: Saxophonist and Orchestra Director.

Mattia Cacciavillani began his musical studies at the age of 10 in the “Domenico Ceccarossi” musical comprehensive school in Orsogna, and then continued them at the “MI-BE” Artistic, Musical and Dance High School in Pescara and subsequently in the “Luisa D’Annunzio” State Conservatory of Music in Pescara, where he trained with Maestro Gaetano Di Bacco until completing the two-year high school diploma in “Discipline Musicali Saxofono”.

He obtained his academic diploma in July 2020 with “Laude and Honorable Mention” with a thesis of a musicological nature written together with the supervisor M° Raffaele Napoli and the co-supervisor M° Gaetano Di Bacco, entitled “The Saxophone: History, Interpreters, Interpretation” , in which themes inherent to the history of the saxophone and saxophonists are addressed, as well as interdisciplinary discussions regarding musical interpretation in objective terms, musical hermeneutics, philosophical reflection on the artistic content, function and fruition of the work of art , art and technology, art and its claim to present itself as a truthful experience of the world, making use of knowledge in the field of phenomenology of music, philosophy, aesthetics and psychology of music.

During his academic career at the conservatory, in the 2019/2020 academic year, he took the opportunity to study, through the “Erasmus+” project, at the “Fryderyk Chopin University of Music” in Warsaw with Maestro Paweł Gusnar, to which he returned, after graduating, in the 2020/2021 academic year as an intern, serving as an artist and as an assistant of the saxophone class.

He has held specialization courses and masterclasses with various saxophonists, including:
Claude Delangle, Vincent David, Arno Bornkamp, Federico Mondelci, Enzo Filippetti, Vittorio Cerasa, Luciano Ciavattella, Gaetano Di Bacco, David Brutti, Mario Marzi, Hans de Jong, Serge Bertocchi, Jérôme Laran, Joonatan Rautiola.

He has won competitions in various formations at: “Paolo Barrasso” International Competition of Caramanico Terme, National Competition of Campobasso, “Francesco Paolo Tosti” Music Competition of Ortona, “Young Interpreters” Competition of the Pescarese Music Academy, National Competition of Tarquinia, Competition “Garganum” National Competition, MIUR National Public Education Competition, “Officina delle MuSax” National Music Competition and others.

He has played in chamber ensembles with various musicians and as an orchestra member in the following orchestras: European Youth Symphony Orchestra, Rome Youth Symphony Orchestra, Dean Martin Symphony Orchestra, Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Carlo Gesualdo da Venosa Theater, MiBe Orchestra, Conservatory Wind Orchestra of Pescara, Symphony Orchestra of the Conservatory of Pescara, Young Academic Symphony Orchestra, Chopin University Modern Music Ensamble; performing in various concert halls, including: Concert Hall of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music of Warsaw, Filharmonia Narodowa of Warsaw, Karol Szymanowski Auditorium of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music of Warsaw,  Teatro Massimo of Pescara, Flaiano Auditorium of Pescara ,  Marrucino Theater of Chieti, Carlo Gesualdo da Venosa Theater of Avellino, Francesco Paolo Tosti Theater of Ortona, Municipal Theater of Città Sant’Angelo, Basilica San Pancrazio of Rome, Torri Montanare of Lanciano, Abbey of San Giovanni in Venere of Fossacesia, Abbey San Clemente a Casauria in Castiglione a Casauria, Roman Amphitheater in Alba Fucens, Auditorium Italia in Atessa, Auditorium of the Luisa D’Annunzio State Conservatory of Music in Pescara, Spazio Matta in Pescara, Teatro ex Aurum in Pescara, Teatro Fedele Fenaroli in Lanciano, Collegiate Church of San Michele Arcangelo in Città Sant’Angelo, Palazzo D’Avalos in Vasto, Teatro D’Annunzio in Pescara, Piazza della Rinascente in Pescara and others.

As an orchestra conductor he studied with Maestro Raffaele Napoli and conducted the orchestra of the State Opera Theater in the city of Varna in the conducting courses, run by the Sergiu Celibidache Association.

In 2022 he was the winner of the national teachers competition announced by the “Ministry of Education, University and Research” for the teaching of musical disciplines in secondary schools.

Since 2024, Mattia Cacciavillani has been an artist of the Sax Clinic’s SCV ligatures. He uses Sonus Divinus ligatures.
